TRADERS from across Beverley are working on a new plan to make the town a vibrant place to visit.

After the final go-ahead for the £120 million Flemin- gate development, a body is being set up called Destination Beverley. Its job will be to pull together all interested parties and promote the town – both the centre and the Flemingate site.

The organisation will be funded in the first three years by the consortium behind the new development, which will include a cinema, a hotel and a Debenhams store.

A spokesman said: "The consortium always felt the new Flemingate would attract new business in terms of tourism and shopping.

"We believe the introduction of a Destination Beverley organisation will mean all groups can work towards the same end; promoting Beverley as a strong destination."

Beverley and District Chamber of Trade chairman Ben Gardiner said: "We asked what we could do to promote Beverley as a whole so people will come to places like Saturday Market, Toll Gavel and Flemingate. There definitely is a common interest. The idea is to promote everything."
