Someone in the Scunthorpe area recently inspired to buy hit festive tune Fairytale of New York may have unwittingly snapped up the one millionth copy.

Thisisscunthorpe.co.uk and the Scunthorpe Telegraph recently ran a story in which reporter Nick Cole looked back to when The Pogues performed this song during a gig at the Scunthorpe Baths Hall in the late 1980s.

Today it was revealed by the Official Charts Company that Fairytale of New York - featuring Kirsty MacColl - has reached the one million mark after 25 years.

It is the 126th single to top one million sales in the UK.
