FATHER'S Day ended on a sour note for a Kirton Lindsey dad, after he rolled his car after drinking.

James Scott, 45, of Gainsthorpe Road West, was driving away from Kirton on the evening of June 21.

Debbie Sanders, prosecuting, said: "At about 8.40pm, police received a report that a car was upside down on the B1298 at Kirton Lindsey.

"Scott identified himself as the driver. He told police he had been drinking.

"He said 'I am really sorry – you guys have got better things to do'."

Scott was later found to have 68mcgs of alcohol in his breath – almost twice the legal limit of 35mcgs.

Defence solicitor Simon Davies said: "Until this incident, he had been experiencing a very good Father's Day."

Scott, he said, had been working in the garden.

He said: "While he was cutting the grass, he thought that he would have a few cans of Stella."

He then noticed one of the car tyres was deflated, so he decided to drive to Morrison's to put in some air, but lost control of the car.

Mr Davies said: "It ended up on its roof. Scott managed to clamber out of the vehicle and promptly collapsed in the middle of the road."

He told magistrates the defendant was the father of two children and was employed as a site manager at a Brigg wood-yard.

He would keep his job, but he would now have to rely on his wife for transport to and from work. Mr Davies pointed out his client had no previous convictions or cautions of any kind. Scott admitted drink-driving.

He was fined £310 and was told to pay a £15 surcharge and £60 costs.

He was given an 18-month driving ban.
