Drivers are hit with £6,000 parking fines
MORE than 200 motorists will be forced to pay up after parking illegally in the streets of North Lincolnshire.
In just one week a staggering 204 penalty tickets were handed out by North Lincolnshire Council's new on-street parking wardens, which is expected to bring in an estimated revenue of £6,000.

The rate of imposing fines in the first week is around 10 times higher than the averages previously achieved by the police, who, on March 1 handed over control to the council.
Cllr Bernard Regan, cabinet member for highways and planning at the council said: "Considering this is a completely new service the council is providing, the first week has gone very well.
"I am confident that, as the service gets into full swing over the coming weeks, the public and local businesses will see even more improvements as a result of this enforcement."
As reported, Humberside Police said in the whole of 2009, officers issued 1,081 tickets in North Lincolnshire, which is around 20 a week.
But a total of 204 Penalty Charge Notices were issued in the first week of the council taking over the service.
This equates to approximately £6,000 of income, based on people paying within the first 14 days and therefore benefiting from the 50 per cent discount.
But motorists cannot say they were not warned as, prior to the handover of the service to the council, 500 motorists who parked illegally were given warning notices and let off more than £25,000 of fines.

“You get a ticket if your parked illegally (generally in a dangerous place) or if you overstay a fixed amount in a parking area. Truth is if people walked a bit more rather than jumping in their cars to travel 1/2 mile then there would be enough parking for those that really need a space. Its a fact there are to many cars on the countries roads.”

“There are a lot of comments here about bad parking in certain areas. Why don't you all get your camera out, take a picture showing number plate and send it in to the Council ?? Even if you remain anonymous, the evidence is there and if nothing is done about it - ie same vehicle parked in same place regularly after that, play hell up with the council until something IS done about it.”

“Mike,I also got a ticket for an overstay of 5 mins in a town center carpark Aug 2008.I can truthfully say NLC have not had another penny out of me since in car park fees. However control is needed in certain places where illegal parking is a problem. The area around the hospital is one followed by all schools at start/finish time. Also on Doncaster Rd where cars are left outside the school all day. There are other areas as well around town with exception of the Berkley estate which is NLC,s forgotten one. Strange as cllr Kirk lives on it and professes to be one of its councillors.Traffic calming measures were promised on Baildon Rd in Feb but failed to materilise, failed promise by NLC.”

“Isn't it incredible how a council as inept as this one suddenly perk up and become uber efficient as soon as they get the chance to earn a couple of quid.
If any of you herberts on here think that they are the calvary coming to rescue you from your parking nightmares you have another think coming.
What you will soon have is a pack of avaricious dogs, whose only interest is feeding their own voracious maw with your money.
Some will say you deserve it if you park illegally, and they have a point. Watch a load more yellow lines appear around the town centre to squeeze you into their car parks....htey did it in Grimsby and strangled the whole town centre....
Good Luck....from now on I'm walking and I'll shop somewhere else.”

“Lee - I'm not looking for the service to make a profit, but why should everybody subsidise the service because it has made a loss? The changeover has taken NLC three years to implement. Make sure the cost is met by those who abuse the car parking restrictions.”
