'Dust from quarry could be harmful'
HARMFUL dust could be released into the air if a Hibaldstow quarry is reopened, it was claimed yesterday.
Redbourne resident George Whiterod and George Wright of Redbourne Parish Council are jointly contesting a controversial application from Halletec Industries to get Hibaldstow quarry up and running again.

OPPONENT: Resident George Whiterod pictured before the inquiry at the entrance to the Hibaldstow quarry which Halletec Industries is hoping to reopen.
At a the second day of a public inquiry yesterday Mr Whiterod said the quarry would result in fine dust particles called PM10 being released into the atmosphere.
"PM10 has serious health consequences and visible dust doesn't," he said.'
"There are averagely between 12,000 and 24,000 deaths per annum from PM10," he added.
Mr Whiterod was questioning Gary Hughes, an expert witness from Halletec, and pointed out Mr Hughes' evidence had stated it was 'virtually impossible to predict the amount of dust from the proposed operation'.
Mr Whiterod said that meant the level at which neighbouring residents would be at risk from PM10 emissions had not been stated or scientifically investigated.
"If you say that the emissions can't be quantified, how can we know what the concentrations would be," he added.

“Be warned, all you potential NIMBYIST newcomers, retirees etc before you consider investing in and relocating to North Lincs looking for a quality rural lifestyle. Take note of the parochial attitudes and mentality awaiting you!! There are evident and justifiable reasons for its cheap property prices and low population!”

“Well I suppose it wouldn't be too bad if Hibaldstow was engulfed in PM10. Hibaldstow is, after all, the roughest place in the entire Universe. We might as well dump our rubbish there, ... everyone else does.”

“PM10 ' s refer to a particle size of less than 10 microns.
The greatest source of PM10's in the atmosphere come from car exhaust emmissions especially diesels. So if you want to be PM10 free i suggest you get rid of your car dont use public transport and live in a bubble in Greenland.”

“6 joiners a week die from asbestosis , dont see the person who dreams these figures up calling for all joiners to be laid off work.
I doubt George if you will ever know what effect a PM10 will have on you , but I do know that if we don't utilise our resources in this area that everyone will suffer . Scunthorpe was built on iron ore mining and kept thousands of miners employed in Notts and Yorkshire until the Nimbys came and put their scientific evidence in. Thought you would have moved before now with all them PM10s about , Try Alaska I think they are pretty much clear up there .”
