JIMMY Savile began his career playing records in dance hall.
His media career started as a DJ at Radio Luxembourg in 1958 and on Tyne Tees Television in 1960.
He developed a reputation for eccentricity.
At the BBC, he presented the first edition of Top Of The Pops in 1964 and broadcast on Radio 1 from 1968. Between 1975 and 1994 he presented Jim'll Fix It.

During his life, he was noted for fundraising and supporting charities and hospitals, in particular Stoke Mandeville Hospital, near Aylesbury, Leeds General Infirmary and Broadmoor Hospital in Berkshire.
For his charitable work, which included several London Marathons, Savile was given an OBE in 1971 and knighted in 1990.
