The elderly woman took him through to the back garden to help him look for his ball, but didn’t find anything.
Later that night, she went to her bedroom and found her jewellery boxes open with a number of items missing.
Police say it is possible a second person entered the property while she was distracted and helping to look for the football.
Detectives investigating this theft are asking members of publicand any businesses that may handle second-hand jewellery to look at the images released and contact police right away if approached to buy anything similar.
Anyone with information relating to the stolen items should call 101, quoting log number 770 of 20/09/12.

“Brilliant that this lady has had the forethought to take photographs of her jewellery, that is a massive help to the police's enquiries. Just how many 14 year olds could have the down right nerve and cheek to be part of a distraction burglary, maybe he was older than he looked.
I hope it hasn't made her too cynical of her fellow man, especially the young.”
