Emma Jordan and Chloe Dance grab a place in the Pul Idol final
SINGING sensations wowed crowds who packed out a Scunthorpe pub to cheer on the latest Pub Idol contenders.
The Platforms venue, close to the town's train station, was the scene of a battle between vocal chords – but only two could emerge victorious.
And the pair who get to wow judges and supporters in the next round are Chloe Dance, 18, of Owston Ferry, who sang 1940s numbers, and Emma Jordan, 22, from Scunthorpe, who went with country-style tracks.
Compere Ian McLane said: "It took a while to get going because two who were down to perform rang to say they couldn't make it and a third just didn't turn up.
"But there were a couple who'd entered previously in the audience, so I talked them into entering and we ended up with four acts," he said.
"The standard this year is superb and all four who sang in the latest round were good enough to go through, but unfortunately we could only choose two.
"Chloe sang 1940s songs, she was the runner-up, it was something a bit different and people really enjoyed it.
"The winner was Emma, she sang a country song and a Bryan Adams number and she really sang beautifully."
With a first prize of £500 up for grabs, vocalists from around the region are competing in a string of heats to find the region's next singing star.
The heat is now really being turned up in the annual competition, with just two more heats before the September final.
Winner Emma Jordan said: "It still hasn't sunk in that I won.
"I got to the final of Pub Idol last year and a couple of years ago when I lived down south.
"I still get really nervous though. I either imagine I'm singing on my own or think about my little boy, Brandon Lee.
"If I win, I'm bound to spend the money on him. Whenever I have any it goes on him, not me. He was there to cheer me on in the last round and if the final won't go on too late, he'll be there too."
