SCUNTHORPE explorer Alan Chambers MBE is embarking on an epic challenge to climb the seven summits in memory of his father.

Having returned home from his first vertical ascent, successfully scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, Alan announced his latest epic plans to climb each continent's highest mountain.

The expeditions will be completed in memory of Alan's father Coiln Chambers, who died earlier this year, with money going towards Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Aids charity Hope.

He said: "My father was the driving inspiration behind everything I've done so far and now that he's gone I wanted to dedicate something to him.

"The two charities we're supporting were charities my father was very passionate about and we're just hoping to raise as much money as possible.

"The aim is to have them all done by the time I'm 50 and hope the legs haven't packed in by then.

The 41-year-old former Frederick Gough School pupil returned home last week from his nine-day Tanzanian challenge, where he was accompanied by brother-in-law Gerard Morgan.

Having raised more than £1,000 from their Kilimanjaro Alan and Gerard are currently drawing up plans to tackle the remaining six of the seven summits.

The seven summits is the name given to the highest mountain of each of the world's seven continents.
