Fall in the number of new homes
CONSTRUCTION: The number of new homes built in the UK fell by 9 per cent last year.
Figures released yesterday from NHBC show the overall level of house-building declined during last year, with 104,510 new homes registered during 2012.
The decline echoed the drop in public sector housing registrations, which fell from 36,680 in 2011, to 26,390 last year.
However, the level of private house-building in the UK was stable, with 78,120 new homes registered, compared with 78,250 in the previous year.
NHBC commercial director Richard Tamayo said: "Last year was a challenging year for the industry overall but ended on an encouraging note, with Q4 figures 17 per cent up on the same period for 2011."
