David has said all along that he wants his friends racing in his meeting, but admits that Patrick is a slightly different case.

He says I actually don't know Patrick personally that well, I know his mechanic Ian more through grass track but Patrick wants as much track time to get over his injuries from last season and I was more than happy to include him in the line up.”

Patrick said “I have only spoken to David a few times but I said to him if he has a spot left in his meeting I’d love to do it, because I think he has been a very good rider for British Speedway. I hope it’s going to be a great day for him. I know Julie who is helping with arranging David’s meeting very well.”

It won’t be the first Scunthorpe appearance for the 23 year old. “I’ve been with the Danish team practising at Scunthorpe and I have also ridden two meetings there. It’s a nice track especially when it has a bit of dirt on it. If it’s good weather we can have an enjoyable meeting I’m sure.”

So promising in his early days with Belle Vue. Patrick hasn’t had a great year or two and that was what prompted his winter change of tracks. “I’m changing tracks this year and looking forward to it very much. I’ve been at Belle Vue four and a half years now and it was time for a change. I need to get my career back on track.”

Because Sam Masters does not yet have a visa to race in the UK this summer he has been forced to withdraw from the meeting. Rye House’s Simon Lambert, a team mate of David’s in 2010, has been clamouring to ride in the meeting and so gets his wish.
