River Ancholme flood alert still in place for Brigg area

The flood alert issued yesterday (Thursday) for the River Ancholme in the Brigg area remains in force today.

A spokesperson for the Environment Agency said yesterday afternoon: "Snow overnight turned to rain.

"There has been up to 15 mm of rain and the forecast is for showers to pass through the area for Thursday.

"River levels are already starting to respond to this rain and we expect it to continue to rise during Thursday morning.

"Low-lying land and roads near the river are likely to be affected first."

A flood alert is the lowest level of alert issued by the Environment Agency.

The current river level at Brigg is 1.49 metres as taken at 2.15pm this afternoon.

The typical river level range for this location is between 0.48 metres and 2.38 metres.

The highest river level recorded at this location is 2.61 metres and the river level reached 2.56 metres on June 25 2007.
