SCUNTHORPE martial arts centre 7KS Chikara are preparing for a visit from a British sporting legend tomorrow.

The 1992 Formula One world champion Nigel Mansell will visit the club's open day at their South Park Industrial Estate centre.

Mansell will be coming to meet the club's young martial arts students as part of his work as UK Youth President.

Mansell is currently making his way around Great Britain on a 1,200-mile, 13-day cycle challenge as part of the charity's Positive About Youth campaign.

UK Youth is celebrating its 100th year and has launched the campaign as it 'challenges the negative perception of young people that is all too prevalent across society and in the media'.

The two-time winner of the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award has always been a popular sporting figure on these shores and now 7KS Chikara have the chance to show him all the good work they do for young people in Scunthorpe.

It promises to be a special day and 7KS Chikara director Alan Wain is hoping Mansell will attract lots of people to the club tomorrow.

"It's going to be fantastic, hopefully it will raise the profile of 7KS Chikara in the local community," Wain told Junior all-stars.

"The club is part of the 7KS (seven key skills) college on the South Park Industrial Estate and was opened by Nigel and Princess Anne in 2008.

"He asked then if he could visit again, so tomorrow he will be popping in for a bit of lunch and a break from his cycle challenge to see how far we've progressed.

"We will have demonstrations of all the martial arts we teach, all the different styles, and we're hoping lots of members of the public will come down for the open day as well.

"It gives us the opportunity to open up the club to the community.

"Nigel was excellent when he visited before, he took the time to speak to everybody and I'm sure he will be a great guest again."

Mansell set off on his big cycle challenge from Kensington Palace in London on July 22 and has since been all over Great Britain representing UK Youth.

The route has taken in Cardiff, Blackpool, Glasgow and Darlington, to name just a few, and now they are heading back south towards the finish line.

The Formula One legend, who has also taken part in the Le Mans 24-hour race, is joined by his sons, Leo and Greg and former Tour de France rider Magnus Backstedt.

They will stop in at 7KS Chikara's centre on Newdown Road at 1pm tomorrow to enjoy the activities of the club's open day (12-2pm).
