SCUNTHORPE United are hoping to reveal their list of pre-season friendlies at the end of the week.

Iron players report back to Glanford Park after the summer at the end of June and are almost certain to begin their warm-up matches, against local sides, in early July.

"We're well on with setting up pre-season games, we're just putting together the calendar," said manager Alan Knill.

"We've got some games sorted which we'll probably be able to announce at the end of the week."

Knill wants all games to be 'competitive', to give his side the best possible chance of being in tip-top condition for August 6, the start of the new League One season.

That means he is all but ruling out hosting a Premier League side at Glanford Park.

"Pre-season games have changed so much, a lot of the big teams now go out of the country through tours," he added.

"If you play them, you're not so much getting the first-team squad.

"I'd rather play someone's first-team, with players that have something to prove, so it's a proper game, which is what you're trying to get.

"Pre-season games against the bigger clubs are rarely proper games."

    “GP summer...

Season ends with two games remaining and the players give game up - the board do likewise and avoid the fans forum en mass.

A weeks worth of bluster in the SET and yet two weeks after the last game, not even a retained list let alone a new kit on sale.

    SIX WEEKS OF NOTHING.

Brigg/Winterton/BArton friendlies followed by Donnny away (behind closed doors) and then the big game against Sheff Weds or Huddersfield...following defeats Lincoln are pencilled in a week before the opening game.

One week before the big kick off at Exeter and we sign four free transfers.

    **************************

It's a bit weak bleating about SUFC being skint when we cant even screen the Cup final, the CL final, host an open training session in the summer or an open day - is it really that far fetched to expect the strip to be on sale by June or HEAVEN FORBID an attracctive friendly or summer concerts? All we hear are excuses and b;leatings from Wharton etc...well unless YOU pull your finger out this summer it'll be less than 2000 season tickets sold and relegation to Div 4.

    Up the Iron!”
