BOBBY Grant is determined he won't just be making up the numbers now he's back at Glanford Park.

The Scunthorpe United striker was delighted to be recalled from his loan spell at Rochdale last week by manager Ian Baraclough.

Grant knows the Iron have struggled for goals in his absence.

And having scored twice in six appearances in League One, the front man is confident he can solve the problem.

"I was made up that I got the phone call to come back because I want to be playing here," said Grant.

"This is my club, this is where I want to play.

"I went to Rochdale to get games under my belt because I couldn't be guaranteed a place in the team.

"But I'm back here now and determined to get in the team.

"I knew I had to be patient when I came here because we've got some fantastic players in that dressing room, there's no doubt about that.

"I've got a lot of faith in my team-mates, my manager and all the people around me because I know they're doing their best for me.

"I'm a bit disappointed that I haven't been playing.

"But when I do get out there, I'm going to do what I can for the team and hopefully I can start scoring goals because that's what I was brought here for.

"I'm banging on the door, so when I do get my chance it's down to me to take it then and prove I'm good enough to stay in the team.

"I'm ready to help get Scunthorpe out the drop zone now."

Such is the 20-year-old's enthusiasm for the club he joined last summer, Grant has religiously kept up to date with United's results.

The Scouser accepts making the jump up from League Two Accrington Stanley to the Championship was always going to be tough.

It meant bridging the gap with a spell at Spotland was a welcomed stepping stone.

"It was a step up from League Two," said Grant of his two-month stint. "It is a step down from here but it's still a different pace.

"I went a step backwards in my career because I wanted to keep match-fit, get games and help them out.

"It was brilliant. Rochdale were brilliant to me – the staff, the players, everyone at the club.

"It was nice to go there and get a few games, get a couple of goals.

"I spoke to the gaffer (Baraclough) a lot and spoke to all the staff a lot because at the end of the day, this is my club.

"I love being here, I love the lads, I love everything about it.

"I followed Scunthorpe's results more than my other team! I was coming in at half-time asking how they were getting on!

"They are my team-mates and it's where I want to be playing my football.

"I've been very disappointed (with the results) because I know the quality they possess. I know the quality in the team.

"I'm very confident we'll turn it around."

“I was hoping we'd try getting one of Leeds reserve strikers on loan as well as someone permanent. Billy Paynter, who was prolific for Swindon last season, has barely figured because of a long-term injury. Also Ross McCormack is kept out of the side by Becchio, Gradel and Somma.”

“whilst not getting very far enticing new players to GP why dont barra think about getting a couple of players on loan who are available-Lee Hendrie ok he's 33 but he's got the experience to do a job & Rowan Vine now at QPR 6'1" not prolific goal scorer but would be a good target man somebody we havent got at the moment!!”

“Courtesey of BBC Sport. Wouldn't be the ET reporting it, or SUFC website!!!

"Scunthorpe United have had a second undisclosed bid for Bristol Rovers striker Will Hoskins rejected, BBC Radio Humberside understands.

Hoskins, 24, is a former England Under-20 international and has scored 14 goals in 25 games for Rovers since joining from Watford in June 2010.

Manager Ian Baraclough is now expected to turn his attention on to other potential targets.

Brighton striker Glenn Murray, 27, has also been linked with the Iron. "”

“I appreciate its not the best illustrator of ability but I've watched the pre-match shooting ritual the attacking players go through in front of the Don Cass and I'm pretty sure Grant is the best finisher at the club (not exactly complimentary) and seems to find the corners with every attempt. He hasn't really been given opportunities as a striker, probably because he's a little lightweight but the lad can definitely finish better than what we have already.”

“Yep, give him a chance. He can't be worse than what's up front at the moment. At least he sounds like he wants to play, and in the absence of an experienced striker coming in we can't do much worse. It's not like we're freescoring at the moment is it?”

“We lacked an outlet on saturday as there was no1 really playing on the right of midfield. Give the lad a chance and see what he does for a few games, what we're doing now isnt working so change it up.
He might seem a bit light weight at times but he's only played 10mins at a time. Rochdale fans I know would have him signed up if possible!”
