Green, clean and now even more lean
MANUFACTURING: Investment in new equipment is helping an East Yorkshire ethical cleaning products company improve efficiencies in its factory.
Bio-D in Bergen Way, Sutton Fields, manufactures environmentally responsible cleaning and laundry products that are UK made, effective, biodegradable and hypoallergenic.
Directors of the company have now invested a five-figure sum to upgrade Bio-D's materials handling equipment in a bid to reduce the company's carbon footprint even further.
The move has been prompted by a spike in sales of Bio-D's washing powder, which managing director Lloyd Atkin linked to a recent accolade from Allergy UK.

He said; "Since we gained an Allergy UK Friendly award last year, sales of our washing powder have increased significantly.
"So, the upgraded powder elevator will be invaluable in saving time and driving efficiencies in the factory."
Bio-D is owned by Sara Holtby and Lloyd Atkin, who bought the business in March 2010 from its founder Mike Barwell.
Bio-D's products are produced from sustainable, naturally derived raw materials and do not contain chlorine or optical brighteners.
The latest investment will result in the upgrade of a powder elevator and a fork lift truck.
