Dragons' Den-style bids for cash by groups in Scunthorpe district, Winterton area and Brigg

COMMUNITY groups from across North Lincolnshire took part in a Dragons' Den-style event to bid for a share of a £30,000 funding pot.

North Lincolnshire Homes gave out sums of up to £3,000 in a funding boost for local organisations.

Groups had to give presentations to representatives of the social landlord on why they should share in the cash.

Winterton-based theatre group Wilton Productions was successful in receiving £1,400 to buy new PA equipment.

The group puts on numerous shows at the Plowright.

Janet Altoft, a member of the group, said: "It is fantastic to gain such a large amount of money. We are all so thrilled."

Groups had to fulfil criteria such as being based locally and benefiting North Lincolnshire Homes' communities.

Among the other organisations taking part was Scunthorpe's Kimberley Performing Arts Centre.

Kim Gribben, director of the Enderby Road-based centre, said: "We applied for £3,000 to order to put on gym classes.

"It was very nerve-wracking giving the presentation but we were thrilled to get the whole £3,000 we needed. We are going to use the money to buy gym equipment such as crash mats and paying two qualified gymnasts. The whole event was very exciting."

Brigg Air Cadets applied for £2,275 to replace its band equipment.

Flight Lieutenant Gill Wills, officer commanding, said: "The equipment we had was more than 20 years old and in desperate need of replacement.

"It was a bit daunting giving the presentation but we managed to get the full amount we needed.

"It is fantastic and will mean we can have more cadets and do more events."

Back 2 Nature Outdoor Training secured £2,150 to put on an team-building course for young people aged 16 to 25.

Elly Dolan, managing director of the organisation, said: "We are thrilled to get the money, which will help to build the skills of young people in North Lincolnshire."

Over the past two years, North Lincolnshire Homes has pledged more than £100,000 to local groups, including community garden projects.

Chris Baker, community investment co-ordinator, said: "It is essential that people who live in this area are given the support they need if they want to make a difference.

"It really could be a great new year for some who have been able to receive a cash boost."
