Thousands of pounds worth of top-quality gymnasium equipment from around the country is to go under the hammer in what is described as a spectacular auction in Scunthorpe next Tuesday (July 3).

The equipment  - ranging across everything from rowing machines and exercise cycles to treadmills and cross trainers - has been sent for disposal from fitness clubs based all over the UK.

Paul Cooper, of auctioneers CJM Asset Management, said: "The leading national fitness chains have a policy of replacing all of their equipment on an automatic three-year cycle, regardless of the fact that machines may well be in pristine condition. It is simply an image thing. To attract new members they want everything to look brand new."

"This auction does present an opportunity for both the public and independent operators in the fitness business to pick up expensive, top notch, commercial quality equipment that might otherwise be beyond their budgets."

"The online auction extends to more than 80 machines, both cardiac and resistance equipment, including rowers, treadmills, exercise cycles, cable cross overs, cross trainers, tread climbers, Olympic benches, strength machines and dumbbells."

"At auction equipment in good condition tends to make just a fraction of its  new cost. Given that some of this kit can cost three or four thousand pounds a time,  there are huge savings to be made."

"As well as individual fitness enthusiasts, the auction will attract interest from independent gym operators and hotels - for their fitness suites - around the country."

Details of the lots are available on www.cjmauctioneers.co.uk

There is to be a viewing session at the firm's auction centre on Dunlop Way in Scunthorpe on Monday, from 9am to 5pm.

The online auction via the Bidspotter platform - www.bidspotter.co.uk - is scheduled to close at 4pm next Tuesday.
