SHEPHERD Warwick May has his work cut out for him as he is expecting more than 700 lambs to be born this year.

Mr May, who works at Elsham Hall Country Park, invited the Scunthorpe Telegraph for a sneak preview of the newborn lambs ahead of the official opening this weekend for Lambing Sunday.

During the tour of the pens, and the sheep, Mr May was called to help deliver a little lamb, which was facing the wrong way.

He said: "He was backwards and needed some assistance in getting out.

"Because of the way he was turned, the umbilical cord breaks before the head is out and as soon as it breaks, the lamb takes a breath. It is important to get it out as soon as possible."

Within seconds the new lamb was out, was breathing and was being licked by its mother.

The site of mothers tending to their baby lambs will be on show for visitors to the country park this weekend.

You can view our video of the lambs here. And keep checking our website to see a future video when we capture the magic of a lamb's birth. The story continues below.

So far around 50 lambs have been born at the park since Saturday.

Mr May said: "Lambing Sunday gives the public a chance to see a commercial sheep flock in full.

"Seeing lambs being born is a sure sign that spring is here.

"Children will have an ideal opportunity to hold a lamb and feed them and it is an ideal opportunity to take pictures of them."
