Healthy reaction to Scunthorpe's new £15m centre
AN ARTIST'S impression of how a £15-million health centre was endorsed by shoppers in the town.
ScunthorpeTelegraph reporter Julie Curtis took an artist impression of what the building planned for West Street, Scunthorpe, could look like around the town centre to gauge residents opinions.

Facilities at the new centre will include traditional GP practices, the 8 to 8 facility temporarily based in Market Hill, Scunthorpe, which offers urgent care, healthy living services, community mental health services and social care.
Sally Ellis 71, of Comforts Avenue, Scunthorpe said: "It looks nice. I don't know if having this will mean a drop in the number of surgeries held around the area but it will relieve the pressure on waiting lists.
"I only live four minutes away from my doctors so I don't know if I will use this or not but it is a good place to put the centre."
Mrs Ellis a retired optician said she would like to know more about what will be inside the building.
She added: "I would like to know if there will be a pharmacy and whether there will be local doctors inside if the answer is yes to both that will be a good thing."
Chris Houldridge 21, of Sand Piper Way, Barton-Upon-Humber, works as a shop assistant in Scunthorpe.
He said: "It looks nice, very futuristic and welcoming. I think it will sit nice in the town centre.
"With it being just off the High Street I think it will be more accessible for people on a day to day basis, especially for the elderly who do not have far to go to get to it."

“Having looked at this more closely I think the presentation at Greeson Hall tomorrow will show that this new build is as much about closing existing GP surgeries as anything.
Brian - read what you wrote. You labelled yourself a racist. As for being a Labour luvvie I'm afraid I would never fit with them. I'm a Socialist not a Tory!”

“Surely these 'immigrants' would go to it wherever it was? Or shall we stereotype a little bit more and assume that they're all too bone idle to walk anywhere? Putting it town is a good idea, it makes it easily accessible to most people. It's nothing to do with labour or being PC. It's to do with ignorant, narrow minded, pessimistic people complaining about everything that goes on in this town. Even when a new development like this is created in the town centre you still find something to moan about.”

“Bewildered, Scunthorpe; must be a New Labour lovey where if you say something they don't like they brand you a racist, homophobe, etc etc”

“Perhaps it is being built in West Street so it is easily accessible to all irrespective of car ownership being close to the bus routes.
Then again it might be convenient for the growing elderly population of the Crosby area.
Indeed it might just be convenient for immigrants who, having spent their formative years outside the UK and being generally fit and healthy, make a valuable contribution to our economy both locally and nationally.
But I don't suppose BNP Brian would consider those points. Would he?”

“I would like to know why it's being built in West Street, is it to soley cater for the foriegn immigrants who reside in the Crosby area who have never paid into the system.”
