PAUL Johnson's team have started the second half of the season in good form in Early Evening Division One.

They have retained their two-point lead at the top over Dave Saxby's side, and Adam Rhodes's team are now eight points behind.

The match between the teams of Tony Hebblewhite and Joan Bolton contained a dramatic finish.

The Hebblewhite squad took an early lead but were unable to maintain their momentum and by the halfway point the Bolton rink were 11-5 in front.

The second half of this battle belonged to the Hebblewhite team, who clawed their way back to 11-all with two ends left.

It was at this point the drama unfolded.

Bolton's team scored one shot on the penultimate end, but the Hebblewhite four scored two on the final end to secure a 13-12 win.

Evening Pairs Division One sees the Steve Burton duo still leading but having been caught up by the Adam Rhodes pairing.

They are separated only by shot difference.

Eight shots decided the winners of a match between the leaders and the Warwick Wooldridge pairing.

The in-form Wooldridge pair held a 9-2 lead at the halfway stage.

Continuing to pose all sorts of problems for their opponents, they forced the Burton duo into some desperately positive play in an attempt to turn the game around.

The Wooldridge pair stood firm, staving off these determined efforts while still producing quality bowls to secure a convincing 18-10 victory and a satisfying scalp.

In Division Two, the Phil Boulton pair are sitting in top spot, with just shot difference separating them from the Graham Teal duo.

A match between the pairs of Peter Bennett and Tony Nicholson developed into a battle of attrition.

The latter set off well, developing an 8-1 advantage, but then the Bennett duo scored seven shots across the next three consecutive ends to draw level.

This fascinating encounter moved on with the Nicholson pair bowling well and creeping into the lead again, 13-9.

Their opponents however, were definitely not in the mood for capitulating and won the next four successive ends to equalise with one end left to play.

With the pressure on, this final end produced some excellent play, but the Bennett pair scored two shots to win 15-13.

In Veteran Rinks Division One, Pat Lowe's team are three points ahead of Peter Collins's side.

And in Division Two, the Neil Berry team hold top spot, just one point in front of Dave Fotheringham's team.
