A TRUCKER from Barrow-Upon-Humber whose lorry was destroyed by a fire wants to thank the man who undoubtedly saved his life.

John Walker (28) was fast asleep when fire ripped through his cab, destroying the vehicle and its load in minutes.

A mystery passer-by, who is thought to have been leaving the Brake Brothers depot near Grantham, saw the smoke escaping through the sunroof and immediately dived in and pulled him to safety.

John, who has been a lorry driver for seven years, is now desperate to thank the man for his brave actions.

"There is a hero out there who needs to be found and thanked for his heroic actions," he said.

John and his friend Alge Turner parked their lorries on Occupation Road, Great Gonerby, Grantham, in the early hours of Tuesday, August 5.

The rescuer was thought to have been travelling in a white DAF at 2am on the evening of the incident on his way to Crawley.

“Agree with Ma! Definately good to hear some good news and great to hear John is still around today thanks to the guy who helped him. As Scania says, doesn't sound suss at all.... bit of a downer when someone does something positive and some people have a hint of suspicion about it.... well done to the 'mystery man' whoever you are!!”

    “reply to anon, Scunthorpe. ....
The guy did 'stick around' but eventually had to continue to Crawley with his load. The other truckers there did not think to ask him his name - they were all shocked by the experience too and John was taken to hospital with smoke inhalation. Nothing a bit sussed at all.....!”

“Great to hear good news - it makes you hope you would do the same thing in the same circumstances. Well done, mystery man!”
