Take care on Scunthorpe area roads as the temperature dips
The Highways Agency, which is responsible for motorways and major A-roads in England, has been working round the clock to keep traffic moving and its 500-strong fleet of snow ploughs and salt spreaders will continue to treat the network while the cold weather continues.
Steve Crosthwaite, head of the Agency's National Traffic Operations Centre said: "We have more than 200 weather stations situated at key points around the network, and we work closely with the Met Office when making our operational decisions to help keep people moving and safe in this winter weather.

"We have already covered more than one million miles and we will carry on treating the network whenever there is a risk of ice or snow.
"We have plentiful salt supplies and we ask that drivers give our winter fleet the space they need to do their job.
"Drivers should also remain alert, and during periods of severe weather maybe consider whether their journey is essential.
"They may want to think about delaying their travel until conditions improve, and if they do set out they should drive with extra care."

“Here's a suggestion. See if you can get a night shift with a Gritter Driver and see what they have to put up with. Could make an interesting story.”
