HOLME Hall Golf Club junior Jordan Campbell has been in excellent form this summer.

The 16-year-old has brought his handicap down from 24 in March to just 14 now.

His list of achievements includes runner-up in the Tetley Bitter Junior Trophy, winner of the top junior prize at Holme Hall's President's Weekend and the winner of several of the club's monthly medal competitions throughout the season.

It has been a rapid improvement from the Scunthorpe youngster, and one that has impressed Holme Hall junior organiser Richard McKiernan.

"His handicap has come down considerably," McKiernan told Junior all-stars.

"He is obviously a bright lad and he has a lot of natural ability, he hits the ball miles.

"He's going to be a good player, there is no doubt about that, because he has won something like six competitions this summer.

"Kids do tend to come down quite a lot in the summer holidays if they're any good.

"But I think Jordan has done well because he has worked hard on the fundamentals of his game.

"He's worked on his grip, his stance and his swing and that is what makes you improve.

"He has been down to the course quite a lot through the holidays, putting in a lot of practice and playing a lot.

"I think he'll be hoping to be a 10 or nine handicap by the end of the year.

"He got two 61s in two monthly medals, two in a row actually, which is 10 under par.

"To get that twice within seven days is pretty unusual.

"His handicap was obviously higher then so the club had to start pulling it in.

"But after the second 61, we had to pull it in more than you normally would do at his age, obviously not all at once, but his handicap needed to be adjusted."

Jordan's father Rob is also pleased with the progress his son has made, but admits he has been surprised just how much he has improved this year.

"Jordan has been a member at Holme Hall for about three years," Rob continued.

"This year everything has just come together massively for him.

"He had a growth spurt and all of a sudden he is hitting the ball as far as the men.

"He hasn't always been that good, but things are going really well for him now.

"We're all really pleased for him and he's a good lad as well, no bother at all.

"So it looks like he is going to be a very good local player. Getting into the county squad will be his next aim now."
