New Iron signing Andy Hughes set to play a leading role
IAN Baraclough is sure that calling on an 'old pal's act' will boost Scunthorpe United's chances of surviving in the Championship.
The Iron boss believes the capture of his former team-mate Andy Hughes will be one of his most significant signings this January.

At 33 years of age, Hughes has the experience and also the enthusiasm for a battle against relegation.
"To leave Leeds and come here at this time shows you a whole lot about the fellow," said Baraclough of a player whom he was team-mates with at Notts County during his playing career a decade ago.
"He just wants to come and play football.
"He could have been on a good thing at Leeds United, particularly if they get into the Premier League.
"But he has been happy to forsake all that and come here to help me play football.
"I admire him for that."
Although used as a left-back on his debut – in the 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday – Baraclough is likely to push Hughes into a central midfield slot, with the introduction of Chelsea left-back Ben Gordon lessening the necessity for Hughes in defence.

“Much is made of our wage budgets being low but I read yesterday that Rob Earnshaw has been asked to take a reduction in his 10k a week wage..so is there perhaps more parity than we realise? I dont think paying top dollar is out of the question if the quality is there (as Phillips would surely offer).

With Reid, Hughes, Raynes, Clifford etc we have the leaders out there - sadly, they wont score the gals to keep us up...we need a narky, lazy, 20 goal a year player who has a bad attitude and a 20 fags a day habit. If we dont sign one before Saturday, we will lose to PNE and that'l be that for this season.
