Short-list of four for next Scunthorpe United manager
SCUNTHORPE United look set to appoint their new manager from a short-list of four.
But it almost certainly does not include former Glanford Park boss Brian Laws, who has been a firm favourite with the bookmakers for a return to the club.
-

CHOICE: Iron chairman Steve Wharton.
Laws is understood not to have been among the 40 managerial applications that the club sifted through at a board meeting earlier this week.
And former Iron skipper Alan Knill, now in charge at Bury and also heavily favoured by the bookies, also appears to have distanced himself from the job.
United chairman Steve Wharton will take charge of looking for United's next boss.
It's expected that he will carry out the initial interviews before then involving other members of the board.
He was unwilling to give any clues about the identities of the men who are now top of Scunthorpe's wanted list.
"We have drawn up a short-list and there are four people on it," the chairman did confirm.
"The process of carrying out interviews is now ongoing."
Wharton is hoping there might be a new manager in place by the time United return to Championship action after the current international break at Norwich a week tomorrow.
But that still remains far from certain.
It will depend very much on whether the candidate they offer the job to is someone currently in work or not.
There were a mixture of both among the original list of 40 applicants.
And it is likely there will be a mixture of both again among the short-list of four.
One of those rumoured to be in the running is Bury boss Knill.
But he seems to be focused on staying at Gigg Lane as the club chase promotion from League Two.
"I have a contract here for another 15 months," he declared yesterday.
"If I am going to be honest with you we have got quite a big job here.
"We have nine games left to really achieve something this season and that is what we are focused on.
"Don't get me wrong, the rumours and speculation is flattering but it is just a reflection of how well my players have done here."

“Who is signing the new players then P'Doff?
I cant be the only one to think it odd that we are moving players in and out with no gaffer in place?
Laws 'director of football' with Crosby and/or Groves as coach?

“Paul Groves, coach at West Ham and friend of the Big Haired party crasher is 5/2 now.
Be prepared for a hoofball loving puppet manager controlled by a hoofball loving meglomaniac sat in the squishy seated box.
The veiled attempt to pull one over the masses has been exposed. Why involve the unwanted one in the first place. It's worse than the Soviet Union down at GP.”

“It would be much simpler if you didn't arrive onto EVERY topic, four or five responses in with your usual...
'Mike- you have to realise that whatever Wharton does will not meet with 1500's approval. Believe me, if they had redued the short list to ten, he would have asked why they were interviewing so many. He'll just criticise everything that's done to appoint a new manager and then criticise the new manager.
I personally would like to Knill here, although I think Wilson or Mixxu would also be good choices.. Oscar O'Moggie, Brigg
