WILL the town benefit from the new retail park? In answer to the question, the benefits to our town, Scunthorpe, are immense.

This multi-million pound investment, which will bring 300 badly needed jobs to our town and give our residents the opportunity to shop locally at the very popular Marks & Spencer and Debenhams stores, will ensure money is spent in Scunthorpe which will then in turn be available to improve our town centre.

Joy Litherland thinks more money should be made available to improve Scunthorpe town centre

At present, millions of pounds is being taken away from our town to Meadowhall, Sheffield, Grimsby, Lincoln and Doncaster, as we do not have the stores here which local people prefer to visit, but once this development is completed this money will be spent here in Scunthorpe. This can only be to the benefit of our town.

Threadneedle Property Investments have lodged yet another appeal against this development, which has been passed twice by North Lincolnshire Council planning authority and given the go-ahead to be constructed at the Judicial Review in December. They are using these tactics to delay the commencement of this much-needed development and in turn delaying the opportunity of new employment and revenue for Scunthorpe. - Joy Litherland, Bottesford

Answer this, how many people have been to Meadow Hall shopping and then gone to Sheffield City Centre? None.”

“Joy Litherland thinks more money should be made available to improve Scunthorpe town centre.
    ........................................................
And from where, Joy, is that money coming from?

I seem to remember that a plan was drawn up for a retail development on the site of the old leisure centre and that not a single member of the conservative council bothered to turn up to see what the development was all about. I mean, aren't Conservative's meant to favour Private Sector investment over the prolificacy and gross miss-expenditure of the tax payers money?

It appears to me that this Conservative Council are more Left-wing than Nu Labour as they seem to think that throwing £10-million of the tax payers money at a new and much "un-needed" college is a far better investment opportunity for the town centre than that of a Retail development using private money!

Coincidentally, haven't they just reported that they have failed to hit their sales targets in the richest economy on the planet by as much as 30% - Seems that even the Chinese aren't interested in M&S and much prefer more upmarket brands like Jimmy Choo, Prada and YSL. That leaves just the "Fur coat and no Knickers" brigade to swan around in their seven year old A-Class Mercs thinking that they're Lord and Lady of the Manor and to make up the share holders dividend payments.

Hey Ho, can't wait for the traffic nightmares to begin and for the mass hordes of the great unwashed to descend upon retail heaven that is M&S food hall!!!!”
