IRON manager Ian Baraclough is hopeful the addition of more firepower will help bring the best out of his other misfiring front men.

Signing at least one striker remains the final piece of the jigsaw for the 40-year-old's work during the January transfer window, with Scunthorpe desperately short of experience and goals in their forward line.

The United manager was last night keeping quiet on the progress of his quest for a goalscorer.

Time is of the essence, with the deadline for permanent signings next Monday, but he did hint that bids are in for players.

"I can't tell you," was all he would say when quizzed on whether United had made any new offers.

He added: "I can't say anything more than has been said already.

"I was on the phone a lot yesterday, as I was on the Sabbath day, but there's nothing to report as of yet."

Jonathan Forte has scored just once in his last 22 appearances while Chris Dagnall has managed one in 13.

Baraclough feels his current strike force would benefit from playing alongside a front man who hasn't been part of a relegation battle.

"Four of our strikers are young in years and a fresher face up top, someone who hasn't had to slog for 18 months near the bottom of the table, might be the catalyst for us to score the one or two we've been lacking," added the United manager.

“Why on Earth would I say that?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it is that we are a small club, dont deserve to be here, cant ever compete, should be pleased we exist etc.

    Career in Macdonalds?”

“Maybe there has been underinvestment in the squad and facilities but can you honestly say that a magic fairy would come in and in 5 years change years of neglect in all of these areas?

1500 club just a quickly feel free to answer in a simple sentence (I got fed up of reading your diatribe). Did you honestly say that you are allowed an opinion but if it differs to yours then it is wrong. After all you basically told Moggie that he was wrong to say the things he was but then said that everyone was entitled to a decision. Career in politics?”

“Moggie as chief happy clapper,do you not realise how bad a situation our club is in,due to not capitalising on 5 years of relative success,by worthwhile investment in the team and still having P**S POOR facilities."UP THE IRON"!!!”

“1500 - Sorry about my last post! I have just read your last post and realise by it's ranting nature, that you must be an elderly supporter with a wandering mind.
I wouid like to assure you that I agree with everything you say and accept you have a superior football brain. I also promise that if my views ever differ from yours I will not have the brass neck to say so.
Now have your cocoa and go to bed.”

“Nice one 'Moggie' - you managed to ignore my insightful post with reguards your ilk of 'supporter', whilst offering nothing but insults yourself. You persist on asking why people offer opinion...just dont bother asking for a.n.other explanation. People who turn constructive observations into a bleat about 'personal insult' deserve all the question marks they offer.

All the best - see you at Pompey?

    Up the Iron!”

“Leicester City will not be offering a contract to former Manchester United 21-year-old striker trainee Febian Brandy. he is free if united dont want to spend to much on 2 strikers that would leave more to spend on the other one”

“Sorry about that, had to nip out. thankyou P.doff for keeping my comments going.
Firstly, 1500 club P.doff managed to wind you up about me going to Brigg, but at the end of the day what would be wrong with that, they are a good honest club, whose supporters go win or lose whatever the competition.
Secondly, 1500, why is it that if someone disagrees with your view you have to insult them. Do you really think you are so superior that you can act so arrogantly. You are of the opininon that
SUFC should play to suit you and noone else is allowed an opinion.
You are a concieted buffoon who likes the sound of his own voice, you are our Andy Gray.
Thirdly, P.doff you can pretend to be me but you will never be as good as looking as me.”
