Iron boss Knill wants to make 'five or six' summer signings
SCUNTHORPE United boss Alan Knill is looking to bring in five or six new faces this summer to Glanford Park.
They are likely to be a mixture of permanent signings and long-term loans.
-
ON THE LOOKOUT: Iron boss Alan Knill.
And they will certainly all be young players who the Scunthorpe manager believes he can develop.
"I have been given a budget to work with that is competitive," Knill confirmed.
"We may have to wheel and deal a bit, but if the budget is used properly, then it does give us a chance.
"I am probably looking to bring in five or six new faces.
"Obviously that means we are going to have to lose some from the players already here.
"I would like to bring the new faces in as quickly as possible, but it does not work like that.
"If we are trying to sign good players, they will have options.
"It looks like it is going to be a difficult summer – but that's what I get paid for.
"I do quite enjoy going and meeting players and trying to sell the club and ourselves to them."
Knill made it clear he is unlikely to be looking at anyone over the age of 24.
"For me, I want value for my money," he continued.
"If I buy a player, I want to be able to develop them and sell them on if we have to.
"There are definitely players out there at 24 and under.
"There are a load that would comfortably fit into this squad, and comfortably play in the Championship.
"I thought that was what Scunthorpe United was all about, but it seems to have gone away from that."

“It doesn't take Einstein to predict a more successful season. Perhaps 6 home wins, only 75 goals conceded and just a minus 40 goal difference. Simples.
The club has been well and truly screwed for years to come by one mad season of inept management by our excuse for a board of directors.”

“If that's all you have to hang onto 1500 you need to get a life really don't you.
Enjoy a few weeks off, go away, watch some cricket.
Come back with a tan, a smile on your face and all ready for a more successful season ahead.”

“The reality is we are only a few days from two months closure of all things SUFC/GP and all we will have to hang on to is the SET reporting on Joe Murphys glamorous new lifestyle at Donny or wherever he ends up...I expect O Connor to also leave too but not until late in the pre season.
5 or 6 young kids in - Paul Wheatcroft-stylee...this is the Iron way and it was just how United were always ran before Adkins achieved the incredible....cheapo signings, two decent players, flirtations with the play offs, nothing to garner interest and 5% on the club shop with each season ticket purchased before 8.43 on thirds Thursday of the seventh month (based on that days shipping forecaste).
Utter rubbish Iron - Knill may be a decent boss but without funds we will simply replicate the era he played under, Wagstaffe-stylee cheapness and dozens of trialists/loans/kids/freebies.
Up the Iron!”

“Jon, Scunny,
Prices for next season have not yet been released and there is every chance of a small reduction in season tickets. Don't know what makes you think they are going up.”

“It's all well and good all this speculation about new players etc. but one fact is that season ticket prices have seen a 'small increase'.
I feel that a freeze on prices or a small reduction would have been more in keeping considering the miserable pathetic rubbish we have been forced to watch this season.
Then perhaps an increase next season would have been more appropriate if we were once again seeing proper football.
I for one will not be bank rolling the club until I see some evidence of what I am paying HARD EARNED cash for.
I am a long time true supporter but will not be renewing my season ticket this season until I see some of the lazy sods actually working for my money.”
