Iron still hoping to have new boss installed by weekend
SCUNTHORPE United are still hoping they might have a new manager installed in time for Saturday's trip to Norwich City.
But last night they had still not reached the position where they could offer anyone the job.
-

FAVOURITE: Bury manager Alan Knill.
The Iron seem to have two main candidates in mind, both of whom are currently in other jobs.
The hot favourite is Alan Knill at Bury, who took training as normal at Gigg Lane yesterday.
West Ham coach Paul Groves is also being tipped as a possibility – though he appears to be focused on preparing the Hammers for their game against Manchester United on Saturday.
"The directors have had another meeting and we know where we want to go with it," confirmed the Iron's general manager Dave Beeby.
"But we are still not yet in a position where we have offered the job to anyone.
"We would still like to get someone in before our game at Norwich if possible."
It seems now it is only a question of sorting out compensation with the other club concerned.
That's why the bookies are leaning heavily in favour of Knill who appeared to leave the door open for Scunthorpe with his comments after Bury's game at Port Vale last Saturday.
Promotion-chasing Bury are reluctant to let Knill go and their chairman is currently away on holiday.
That could be where there has been a delay and there has been relative silence from both camps.

“I agree with Stu that our club should not have to pay the price of losing our manager because we have punched above our weight in League 2 and the failings of a badly run club stealing our boss. There might be slightly more money in the budget if Ak was to take the reins at Scunny but remember the drop in revenue from The Championship to league to is huge nearly 2 million pounds less.I look at Rochdale and their ability to keep Mr.Hill and think why can't we keep our manager.I'm affraid it stinks. We always used to be a selling club and now it looks like we will not be able to keep our manager. We are sitting ducks,if we are successful then we lose if we are struggling we remain that way.Certainly i feel Chris Brass could remain and steady the ship,if he goes we will be in a real quandry and any hint of promotion won't be realistic.I'm worried for next season unless we can bring in somebody like Danny Wilson a local man who started his career at Bury fc.”

“I agree Stu - I'd be gutted in your position but thats how football works I'm affraid....I hope you go on to succeed in winning promotion and reach Div One.
Th ereason Knill is keen on the job is a much bigger transfer kitty than Bury next term and and few quid extra - the days of loyalty in football ended in the 1960's lets hope Knill is uber successful at United and we have him poached when second in the NPC next March.
Any news on whether Brass will come with him?
Up the Iron!”

“I think that Scunthorpe are being under hand by trying to unsettle a manager who is currently trying to secure promotion to league 1,
Has you know your more than likely to be playing in league 1 next season either way.
Our Manager has worked wonders in the 3 years that he has been at gigg lane and obviously going to attract intrested from other clubs but now is not the time to start ruining another clubs dream for your failings in the championship (should of put more effort in to keeping your last manager)”

“Leave Knill where he is & don't un do the hard work he's put in at gigg lane since he took over 3 years ago.
We are mounting serious promotion push and because you are unable to sort your own issues out you seem to wish to turn people's heads!! Go and find another manager”

“Lets hope Knill does well at SUFC because he has no experience or track record of getting anyone promoted, let alone from Div 1 to the NPC.
Relegation, flirtations with the play offs, lower mid table, relegation, fklirtaions with Div 4 play offs the mid table for a few years.
NO NEW STAND.
2,500 CROWDS.
CLOSED ALL SUMMER.
HOBBOT KITS.
NAFF BUNNY MASCOTS.
SILLY CLUB CRESTS.
Nice one Iron - we made it to the 'promised land' but didnt have a clue how to handle or exploit this opportunity so back to Torquay in the comgort zone.
Up the Iron!”
