SCUNTHORPE United will hold its first ever Help For Heroes Day at the televised match against Coventry City next month.

The club has designated the clash with the Sky Blues for the fundraising, in aid of the organisation that helps injured service personnel.

Help For Heroes is the Football League's nominated charity for this year and proceeds from the day will go towards the fundraising effort for the Climb4Heroes team, which is set to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro next year.

United Community Trust chief executive, Lee Turnbull, said: "I think it is important that as a football club, we support the Football League's nominated charity, which is Help For Heroes.

"Locally, we have lost servicemen in recent months and I think everybody at the club is aware that the servicemen are doing a great job in Afghanistan .

"It is important that we recognise that and hopefully, the game against Coventry will involve servicemen and their families attending and with the game being live on Sky, hopefully we will raise awareness of the Help For Heroes charity."

As reported in the Scunthorpe Telegraph, the climbers are hoping to raise £16,000 with the trek up Africa's highest mountain.
