The 24-year-old, a lifeguard at Scunthorpe's Pods leisure centre, beat thousands of other hopefuls to make it to the Judges' Houses round of the competition.
After jetting out to Dubai to sing for judge Nicole Scherzinger, he was given the news he was to go no further.
Watched by millions of viewers across the country, Nicole told Jake: "I'm sorry Jake, I just don't think you are ready yet."
A disappointed Jake burst into tears but replied: "Thank you for everything."
Jake thanked his fans last night for their "amazing support".
He tweeted: "Thanks so much for support and messages you literally all put a fat smile on my face so thank you very much x."
