Jones injury remains worry for Iron
THE broken nose for centre-back Rob Jones is still giving Scunthorpe United cause for concern.
The injury, which he sustained against Barnsley, has kept the 30-year-old player sidelined for the last three games.

He returned to training last Thursday and was pencilled into the squad for Saturday's game at Coventry.
"But in training on Friday, Rob could not head the ball without his nose starting to bleed," said manager Nigel Adkins.
"And when he went to do some work on the bike in the gym, it started to bleed again. Obviously there is something still not quite right, but no reason to believe it is anything serious.
"Normally a broken nose just requires rest and hopefully with having no game this weekend, Rob will get the rest he needs."
Young United striker Adam Boyes has gone out on loan for the rest of the season to Blue Square Premier League side Kidderminster.
"He will join up there with manager Steve Burr who picked him for the England non-league squad," said Adkins.
"Adam is one for the future for us and needs regular games under his belt.
"With Kidderminster he will have a chance of playing in the promotion play-offs if they reach them and playing at Wembley if they get through the semi-finals of the FA Trophy."
Boyes joined United from York last summer but has not broken through into the first-team squad.
Former Grimsby striker Danny North will spend this week with United at their training camp in Leicestershire.

“So none of you have seen Jones play a great game for us this season?
Well I have! Man City at home he had Benjani in his pocket and terrorised the City defence especially in the second half.
QED he can play - arguably at a higher level.
Now if he actually got some support from you "fans" it might improve his confidence to deliver on a consistent basis. Football is after all a confidence game, if it wasn't they would not be paying millions in compensation for managers to motivate and improve the confidence of players after all the managers don't score any goals.
As for the morgue at GP there has hardly ever been a decent atmosphere. Why should any better players come to Scunny just to suffer the silence?
We are still outside of the relegation places - thats all we require so support the team and the excellent manager - or suffer the consequences.”

“Mike you can't compare Josh Wright, O'Conner, Hooper or Woolford's recent drop in form with Jones's continuious ever present poor ability it's not as if he will improve like we know the other can.”

“Negative comments?
What's negative about wanting poor players dropped?
I'd say it's a bleeding positive thing to want,it's negative to put up with poor players if you ask me”

“Jones is not CCC standard. Sell him in the summer please, if possible (any takers ? I doubt it - not at that price anyway)
Who watched Jones for SUFC ? I suspect no-one.
As for the comments re Adam Boyes, when has he had a chance ?
We have no competition to Hooper. Boyes should get a game. Hooper only turns up at home games and occasionally away. He is good but he needs competition.”

“Unfortunately D that isn't my experience. I have held season tickets in two of the stands (and moved from one stand because of one moronic fan) and have also been a spectator in the other home stand and everywhere I have sat I have been met with "people" abusing the players (to the point that one of them responded to a particularly idiotic fan- and from what I heard I don't blame him and are surprised that only the one has responded). It says a lot when they respond to the HOME fans like that rather than the away fans.
In no other business would a member of staff be subjected to the abuse that these players do and no their wages don't mean that they should be. At the end of the day I don't think this abuse will stop in my lifetime and I will continue to be a season ticket supporter for as long as finances etc allow but at the end of the day it is a sad reflection on the game/fans that enjoy the game but dislike the atmosphere.
Here's a suggestion instead of a swear box lets have a negative comment box (No I'm not Nige in disguise!) and that way all you miserable lot who make negative comments about Jones et al can help repay some of the funds the club has spent on them!!! (I may be the first to make a donation based on some players performances!”

“Was talking to a mate who is a Grimsby fan and apparently Jones was garbage for them in his first season but player of the season in his second season when they got to the play off final. Don't write the big man off just yet! I do agree though that up to now he has been a big disappointment.”

Boyes is useless but hasn't been played costing us games as Jones has.

“The thing with Boyes was he was referred to at the time of signing as one for the future, whereas Jones was going to be the player we built our defence around (and he had the price tag to reflect that fact, which while not his fault in any way is not helping matters). I for one am glad to see Boyes going out on loan, getting a bit more experience under his belt and coming back a better player. Dave, Paris - I meant that we should give Jones longer to settle but keep him out of the team for the remainder of this season if possible (with Raynes, Mirfin, possibly Milne and Canavan we may be able to do that). I agree that 30-odd games should be enough for him to settle, but players can often take a whole season to adjust. If this is the case, and in September he lives up to his billing, then great. If come september he's the same as now, then that is the time to try and recoup some of the money we laid out on him. Unfortunately, a lot of money was spent on him so it's in the club's interest to make it work if at all possible.”

“oh my bad, i was referring to the title
"Jones injury remains worry for Iron"
I do go to the majority of the games and it is quiet until we score however where I stand, the people around me are very supportive and give praise when a player does well equally diss the player that doesn't. Jones is a good player 'underneath' but just not for CCC!!! enough said”

“Some interesting points on here but no the article isn't just about Jones its also about Boyes. (Hang on he hasn't made the grade either -not even good enough to be picked for the first team yet not as many comments about him).
Yes it is very frustrating forking out money for people who don't perform (Maybe thats why Wharton is reluctant to fork out for an all seater stadium) such as Jones but maybe people should also be reminded about Milne (how much has he cost and how many games has he actually played).
I still think that underneath it all Jones is a good player and will be an excellent signing but at the end of the day Raynes (another good player) has stepped up a league into a division where they play similar football at a faster pace whereas Jones has stepped into an entirely different league. Yes its similar but at the end of the day it is questionable whether Celtic and Rangers could survive in the Premiership and a handful of Scottish teams are good enough to play in the championship. Furthermore on a national media channel Raynes and Jones are both rated the same for performance.
Next time you visit Glanford Park listen to the carefully until we score a goal as to how quiet it is (except for the moaning of course) then listen after-bit different isn't it.”
