Jones makes comeback in reserves defeat
UNITED defender Rob Jones made his comeback from a broken nose in a 5-0 defeat for the Iron reserves at Leicester yesterday.
The club's record signing has been ruled out of action for Scunthorpe since the 2-1 win against Barnsley nearly a month ago following a clash of heads and subsequent discomfort when heading a ball.

But it was an unhappy return in claret and blue for Jones, as well as some other well established Iron players, as the reserve side were knocked out of the Totesport.com Cup at Hinckley United's Green King Stadium.
There was an unusually large media presence as the semi-final clash was being officiated by former Premier League referee Mark Halsey, after his recovery from cancer of the lymph nodes.
Fellow first team players such as Andrew Wright, Grant McCann, Josh Wright and Jonathan Forte also played in the defeat.
Perennial injury victim Kenny Milne was handed a rare start but the Scunthorpe centre-back had to be substituted after 34 minutes.
To make the defeat even more acrimonious for the experienced United reserves side, they were up against a Foxes team made up largely of young players.
Adi Yussuf scored a hat-trick and Elliott Chamberlain bagged a brace as the City front two made light work of a disappointing Iron outfit and sailed into the cup final.

“How can Adkins justify playing Jones on saturday after a poor turn out for the 2nd string??? We have got to win on saturday, it is a big ask but the team should be full of energy and hunger to put in a good performance. Starting lineup Murphy Byrne Mirfin Raynes Williams Thompson O'Conner Togwell Woolford Hayes and Hooper. Start in 4-4-2 and just hope all that pampering pays off! Sorry to hear that Milne is still struggling. Can anyone really see him making a come back???”

“I realise that I have been banging the same drum for quite some time now, and I apologise in advance for boring people, but has the ET enquired as to whether there is ANY chance of having Milne fit for the run in of the season?”

“See Leicester have the common sense to play their reserve games away from the first team pitch............”

“No thanks Jones - stay away from our first team. Nothing to brag about is it - losing 5-0 to another teams youth set up !!!
To cap it all our record signing and resident Skating On Ice star is at the heart of the defence!
Milne not up to it again. Adkins should stop with his perseverance and stop making him have cameo appearances on the bench when we can use Jones as a record signing bench warmer.
Also it seems that the McCann work ethic is spreading like wildfire in the team, Josh Wright being it's latest advocate. Funny how we seem to be turning off all over the pitch even in reserve games.”
