A DARE-to-be dame will once again be slipping on some stockings to join the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk in a quest to defeat the giant.

Keith Blanchard, of the Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club, has racked up nine appearances swapping gender roles but last tidied away the dame's frock's three years ago.

After that production of Little Red Riding Hood, he indicated he would prefer to express his great love of pantomime in other ways.

He went on to direct the club's production of Aladdin the following year and was also, for the 11th time, its pantomime drummer last year.

Shortly after the Aladdin production, club member Ben Pittaway visited Keith, expressing an interest in having a go at playing a dame.

Ben went on to give a hilarious interpretation of Dame Molly, Maid Marion's maid in Robin Hood, and of Sarah the Cook in last year's Dick Whittington.

With a hunger for more dame roles, he wished to be considered as Dame Durden in the club's forthcoming Jack and the Beanstalk show.

But after circumstances changed, Keith was persuaded to don the dame's dress once more.

Linda Hankinson, the club's press officer, said: "When circumstances altered and Ben found himself unable to undertake it, he revealed a further talent – that of a drummer.

"The upshot was that Keith, who had undertaken to drum for the show, was persuaded to hunt out the frocks one more time, while Ben hunted out his drum kit.

'The club is very fortunate indeed to have two such talented and versatile performers."

Jack and Beanstalk will be staged at the Plowright Theatre in Scunthorpe from Tuesday, January 15 to Saturday, January 19 at 7pm.

Additional matinee performances will be held at 11am and 2.30pm on the Saturday.

Tickets cost £8 each or £30 for a family ticket for four and can be booked at the theatre box office on 0844 854 2776.
