DELIGHTED Scunthorpe United boss Ian Baraclough believes his side showed the fighting qualities required to stay in the Championship, after a sterling 3-2 victory over fellow strugglers Sheffield United.

Trailing 2-0 after eight minutes, the Iron rallied with a double from Joe Garner and Lee Miller's first for the club to seal three points that take them within a win of fourth from bottom Crystal Palace, with two games in hand.

"My lads have shown we have got real guts, determination and mental strength to see this through," said Baraclough.

"The group we have been getting together have gelled. They don't know when they are beaten and they don't want to taste defeat. We got ourselves in a hole early doors and dug ourselves out. (This result) will show the rest of the clubs around there that we don't think we should be down there come the end of the season and we are going to fight tooth and nail to stay in this division.

"Seven points out of the last nine is something I don't think people believed we could go and do."

And the United manager savoured delivering a hammer blow to one of their relegation rivals.

"This one result will not have a bearing either way," he added. "I am sure Micky Adams will say the same, but psychologically it is a massive blow for us to strike."

“1500 club has always been a cut above most. Anyone remember the Gold coat episode?”

“Moggie chief clapper of brigg, its not about being a superior supporter or how long you have been supporting the iron,it is about wanting and expecting improvements on and off the pitch at SUFC,and not belittling people who do not applaud everything our club does, even it is blatently wrong."UP THE IRON"!!!”

“1500 - my first memory of the 1500 club at the OSG was when my uncle took me in before playing Halifax in the cup just before Xmas about 1972. I was only a nipper but kids were allowed in if they didn't run about. Geoff Barnard was in and signed my programme.
I well remeber Des Graves being the steward/barman there in the late 70's.
Like you I remember Scunthorpe United from 30-40 years ago but unlike you I don't think that qualifys me as a superior supporter who knows more simply because I've been attending matches for such a long time.”

“Ha Ha - you can always spot them...usually it's by trying to hard to sound like they know their stuff...I dunno why new fans (who we need as many as possible and should be made welcome at GP) cant just show some HONESTY AND HUMILITY.

I've noticed this trait since we started doing well ... new fans (who perhaps were intermitent followers over a period) are suddenly season ticket holders but they seem to find embarrassment in this - Lord knows why....OVER CLAPPING THE PUDDING - A RELUCTANCE TO DISCUSS FOOTBALL - A FEAR OF BEING OUT'ED AS NEWER SUPPORTERS ... it's like Hull City but on a much smaller scale - why the vanity? If you have only recently started supporting reguarly, dont worry cos no one cares - you only look lost when you pretend to know everything and attempt to call other supporters for not being vocal/supportive.

Up the Iron and welcome to SUFC Oscar.”

“I500 CLUB,please forgive chief clapper Moggie of brigg,he will not know what the 1500 club was as he was probably supporting the cods in those old showground days."UP THE IRON"!!!”

“Although the back pass was certainly short - Lillis had time to assess it and simply we felt that, had Lillis elected to slice it to the right he would have had ample space to clear his lines. Time and again he was caught off his line yesterday and he was lucky that Derbys goal was disollowed on Saturday after another error. He is a decent keeper and will be our number one for years but he is no where near Murphy.

I hope you dont take for granted my daily replies to your intermediate questions on the game - I always endevour to fill in the gaps you need to know...I do, however, draw the line at explaining to a man of your vintage the meaning of the '1500club' moniker...I've certainly never linked it to games attended, our average crowd or any other daft explanation from the ignorant and uneducated away fans...I would expect an SUFC supporter to have some idea.

    Up the Iron!”

“Brother Ignatius - I think Brian and Pdoff were stood behind me last night. After seven minutes they started singing 'being paid to go down'. I never saw them after half time.
Those sad lads from Grimsby have stopped coming on here as well. Where's Forrest Green?”

“Pray tell me, why are there so few comments on here when United win or draw, and so many when they lose?
Where is Brother Brian of Barton on Humber, or Brother Doff of Scrotumby? Why are they not giving us the benefit of their great wisdom of late? Pray let them bend over and shine their self-righteous light upon us.
Peace be with you, laugh at the Cods.”

“1500 - Can't understand why with your superior football knowledge and being an alledged veteran of 1500 games (?), why you blame Lillis for the second goal. He had no option but to try to clear the ball, the problem was the poor back pass.
Anyway a great game, a spirited performance and a great result. I was clapping very happily last night.”

“Well done Bara - I knew as soon as we scored Sheff U would fold.

Baras face when the second went in (how many mistakes is that now Lillis?) was like thunder...ha ha!

    Up the Iron!”
