TV Licensing is reminding pubs and clubs to make sure they are correctly covered by a TV Licence.

Any pub, bar or sports club which shows live television must be covered by a valid TV Licence.

TV licensing is issuing a reminder to pubs and clubs

If there is living accommodation on the premises where a TV is also in use, this must be covered by a separate licence.

Pubs without a valid licence are breaking the law and run the risk of a court prosecution and fine of up to £1,000 per offence plus costs.

Lucy Baird, TV Licensing spokesperson for the North of England, said: "With numerous pubs and rugby clubs spread across Scunthorpe, watching live rugby and cheering on England in the company of friends is a great way to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.

"It's important that pubs and clubs are correctly licensed and we know landlords and managers want to stay within the law. It is why we are issuing this advice ahead of the 2013 RBS 6 Nations tournament."

Brigid Simmonds, Chief Executive of the British Beer & Pub Association, added:  "With the time pressures on busy pub licensees, it's easy to overlook making sure your TV licence for the premises is up to date.

"These days, live TV sport is now a hugely popular part of the British pub experience for millions of customers, so this is a timely reminder."

Landlords or managers who would like more information about  TV Licensing requirements, or ways to spread the cost, can call the TV Licensing businesses team on 0300 790 6131 or visit www.tvlicensing.co.uk/businesses

“BBC is suppose to be funded only by licence fee to give us a true version of the news , Yet in the news lately also been funded by EU to make it look good to the media ,Many people feel we are not been given a true version of the news as RT and other independent news forums show different views of same news , Also the latest news on jimmy saville , has upset people as its been covered up information hidden not passed on . making them as bad as he was . Most people would like it to be closed and the licence fee scrapped an expensive service that's not needed any more .”

“Why are Scunthorpe Landlords being specifically targeted for this reminder? If I was them I would sue. Gig deeper ST this may get big.”

“Nice white & blue TV licensing magnetic logo on the bonnet of the hire Ford Transit to make it look authentic. In all my years of travel I have never seen a van with these marking ever. Also what is that nicely dressed man with white ear phones listening / watching on his mobile device, I hope he has a licence if it is a live broadcast especially when walking past a detector van. Or is it a speed trap in disguise or a multi agency approach to save money and double money?”
