Larkin toads miss out on major award
HULL: Hull's loveable Larkin Toads project has missed out on a major national tourism award.
The street art project went head-to-head with others nationally including the Grand National, Bristol International Balloon Festival and Tall Ships in Hartlepool.
Although controversial to begin with, the Larkin Toads captured the hearts of people in Hull and the East Riding in the summer of 2010.
They were part of the Larkin25 project, which marked 25 years since the death of poet Philip Larkin.

Since their inception, they have impressed judges across Yorkshire, already winning two regional tourism awards, including Tourism Event of the Year at the White Rose Awards 2011 and Remarkable Experience Award at the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards 2010.
The award ceremony was held in the Art Deco Athena in the heart of Leicester's cultural quarter on Tuesday night.
The eventual winner in the category of Best Tourism Event of the Year was Tall Ships in Hartlepool.
