A NEW Brigg and District branch of the Royal British Legion has been established.

The branch is the sixth in North Lincolnshire and is now inviting new members to join it.

The Royal British Legion is the leading cause providing financial, social and emotional support to former and current armed forces personnel and their families.

Brigg and District branch chairman, Andy Moses, 40, said: "We formed it because there used to be a Brigg and District branch that was wound down about five years ago and I believed there was a need for it.

"People do support the servicemen and ex-servicemen so we needed a local branch for people to join."

Mr Moses, who served for 12 years in the Royal Engineers, said the response to the new branch had so far been positive.

He said: "We have had quite a few people returning membership forms.

"I had 80 forms and I have now only got 18 left.

"The interest is definitely there and we also have a lot of existing members transferring to the local branch."

Anybody wishing to join the branch can attend a meeting, along with existing members, at the Black Bull pub, in Brigg, on Wednesday, March 31, at 7.30pm.
