The long-vacant site on Atherton Way is very close to the main A18 and also near the Old River Ancholme.

Enhanced landscaping will go hand in hand with an improved riverside walkway linking the new store to Brigg town centre.

Lidl's existing store on Spring's Parade, near the County Bridge, will be demolished, in due course, to allow Tesco to build itself a new Brigg store - much bigger than its present one off Barnard Avenue.

Lidl has produced a glossy "Brigg Update" leaflet outlining the progress being made on its new store and posted copies to many households in the area.

Although the retailer has not said how many new jobs might be created at the new premises in Brigg, it has included a section in the leaflet about employment opportunities at Lidl, which has 550 stores across the UK.

The new Lidl will have almost 100 parking spaces for shoppers and "highway improvements" are to be made to improve access to and from the site.

Lidl has already submitted a formal licensing application for permission to sell alcoholic drinks at its new Brigg store for consumpion off the premises.

This will be during licensing hours of 7am to 11pm, Monday to Sunday.

“Brigg will soon need a new overnight lorry park once the existing Lidl car park off of Springs Parade is closed off for re-development. If Lidl install height restrictors at the new car park from Atherton Way, except allowing access to their own loading bay, somewhere in Brigg is going to have a problem.”
