MANAGER Ian Baraclough has told his Scunthorpe United players they must build on last night’s 1-0 victory over Nottingham Forest.

An own goal from Chris Gunter, under pressure from Iron striker Chris Dagnall, in the first half handed United three precious points.

But Baraclough has warned his team that will all go to waste if they don’t put in a similar performance against Derby County on Saturday.

“It’s only three points, so it’s a start,” said the Iron boss.

“I’ve said to the lads, if you don’t put that amount of work in again on Saturday against Derby, you’ll get beat.

“The amount of work they put in against Cardiff last Saturday, we got that again and more last night. But I’ve said they’ve got to do it again on Saturday because that’s the sort of division it is.

“From now until the end of the season it has got to be that level of performance and we’ve got to get some consistency going.”

Baraclough admitted his team invited too much pressure on themselves as their visitors looked to claw something back.

But he spared special mention for Michael Nelson.

“That just shows you what sort of character I’ve brought to the club,” said Baraclough. “He led from the back and put his body on the line, like everyone did. I’m not singling anyone out.

“When you’re in a position when you’ve not been winning games, you tend to sit back and soak up the pressure, and all you do is invite more pressure.

“I had a go at the lads at half-time for little flicks in their own half and not getting up quick enough to squeeze play because it kept coming back at us.

“Eventually you expect something to give way. It didn’t last night but you have to learn from that.”

“You can’t just soak up pressure like that, you’ve got to manage it properly.

“But I can’t say enough about a performance that merited three points for me.”

    “Eddie,

100% in your assessment of O'Moggie, he thinks that it is being a loyal supporter, by just backing everything that the club publish. Same as you say Eddie, the true supporters hate to see our club in its present struggling state, and actually publish their suggested ways that would improve things. It is obviouse that the club is doing many things wrong, when they find themselves 7 points adrift of safety, so please think O'Moggie before you just attack 1500 CLUB, P Doff and others like myself, we have the clubs progress in our hearts, and have had for many many years.

    Cheers...........tiptop”

“Well done lads, you defended brilliantly last night, I really enjoyed the game, and it was great to see the lads fight for every ball. I actually had a good nights sleep after that game.

Still a long way to go, but the positive signs were evident last night, and there will be some tired legs and lungs today!!

Also great to here the supporters cheering their team on, but sad that only 3,650 home fans bothered to attend the match, but last night it was their loss.

Same against the sheep and Sheffield in our next two matches, wouldn't it be great if we could get 6 points from these two matches.

Hope you enjoyed the game O'Moggie pal.

    UP THE IRON.”

“You just don't get it do you Oscar? 1500club is probably the most positive poster around - just because he refuses to accept mediocrity doesn't mean you won't see him singing the praises of players and management. If you actually bothered to read the words that people write rather than projecting your own interpretations upon them, you might gain a glimmer of understanding. What do you call "positive"? Blithely ignoring the failings of something that you purport to care about? Praise when necessary - criticise when necessary.”

“If Scunny had lost last night , P.doff, 1500 club, Brian and the rest of their moaning cronies would have been on here bemoaning the team, Barra, Wharton etc etc.
    Where are they?
Their silence just shows how shallow and negative they are.
I know there's an awful long way to go if we are going to survive in this league but I do think some credit is due to the team for last nights result.
Just shows that some people are only pleased when Scunthorpe lose.
    Thankfully I'm a happy clapper”

“3 points, well done the iron, but still a lot of work to do to help us stay up. just kicking the ball upfield is not the answere, we need someone to hold and pass the ball to our men not present it to the opesition, but give the lads support, it was good to hear the crowd get behind the team, lets just hope moer noise from more supporters will be there in the future home games”
