Living dolls proving popular
A WOMAN on the Isle of Axholme has created her own baby-boom by creating 'reborn' dolls.
These 'reborn' dolls may look like real babies, with their veins, and milk spots visible in their features but when you take a closer look you will see they are in fact ornamental.
Reborn doll artist and mum-of-three Judy Gray has devoted hours of her time to hand-crafting baby dolls using just a set of paints, artificial hair and a vinyl doll kit purchased from the internet.
Over the last two-and-a-half-years Judy, 55, of Outmill, Althorpe, has crafted numerous dolls and sold them to friends, family and even childless couples across the UK for as much as £300 each.
"I have always been a lover of dolls," she said. "I saw some Ashton Drake dolls in a magazine and bought one or two of those.
"I went onto auction sites looking for these dolls when I came across the reborn dolls – my initial thought was I've got to have a go at that.
"I was flabbergasted at first and I've never looked back."
Judy is currently making the final preparations to her tenth doll for her latest collection.
She is due to show the dolls at the Elsecar Heritage Centre, in South Yorkshire on September 19.

“Well done Judy for showing your babies with pride, even though we normally have to deal with snide remarks. Congratulations on the article.”

“It is very nice to see an article in the press about Reborn dolls without snide remarks or attempts to make the collectors and artists look like sad, demented women. Congratulations on a balanced article.”
