Local youngsters to choose music for Royal Philharmonic Orchestra concert at Scunthorpe Baths Hall
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will deliver an education project that will see local children choose music for a concert to be performed by the famous group at the Scunthorpe Baths Hall - as part of the First Time Live project.
Children aged between 11 and 15 will gain experience of working with classical music in a new way by planning, programming and presenting a concert.

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra will be performing at the Scunthorpe Baths Hall
Thirty participants from six local schools were selected to take part and will work with the Orchestra over three weekends between January and March, and will be mentored in the interim through a secure, online social-learning forum called Makewaves.
The project will culminate in a 75-minute concert at the Baths, in Doncaster Road, which will be performed to more than 2,000 local children from Key Stage 2 and 3 and will include a range of music including Mozart’s Horn Concerto No.4 and film music from Pirates of the Caribbean, as well as the music the children have chosen themselves.

Phil Woods, who plays in the horn section of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and helped to lead the project said; " am so inspired to work with children who love music and its surrounding activities.
"It will be fantastic to come to the concert in March and find out what this lot have in store for us. Some of the ideas will certainly stretch the orchestra."
The project is being delivered by RPO resound, the longest running orchestral music outreach programme of its kind.
Ruth Currie, Head of Community and Education and the project organiser, said; ‘Making quality orchestral experiences and learning opportunities accessible to new audiences is intrinsic to our work as an orchestra,
so we are delighted to be working with young pupils in Scunthorpe to design and deliver such an innovative learning concert alongside our Film Music Gala at The Baths Hall.
The RPO will perform the Film Music Gala at the Baths Hall. Ticket prices £20, £25 and £30. Call the Box Office on 0844 854 2776.
