MP backing bid to clear Biffa stench
OFFICIALS have teamed up to try and put a stop to a foul stench given off by a local tip.
MP Ian Cawsey, Winterton Town Council, Roxby Town Council and ward councillor Bernard Regan have all been involved in the fight against smells of rotting rubbish wafting from Roxby Landfill site.
Mr Cawsey's online petition received hundreds of signatures, and a drop-in session hosted by Biffa in June last year, which invited local people to come along and raise any issues, drew dozens.
Mr Cawsey said liaising with Biffa played a vital part in tackling the malodorous problem.
He said: "In addition to meetings with Biffa and the Environment Agency to discuss the odour problems, both Cllr Linda Cawsey and I went to the drop-in to discuss progress.
"Whilst I think things are better now then they were this time last year, it is clearly not entirely eliminated.
"I do still get occasional complaints and from time to time I smell it myself when I pass the site. "What is important is that odour problems are reported, especially with the time and date of the incident, as the company say this helps track down the likely source and take action to minimise it in the future."
Pam Dudson, clerk to Winterton Town Council said: "The council has indeed been involved with meetings with Biffa and the Environment agency along with other parish and town councils in the area.
"The liaison meetings started a year ago when the smells started to cause real problems– issues are reported to me and the council, then passed on to the site.
"We have also, through our newsletter, encouraged people to get in touch with us if they have a problem and the site manager allowed us to put his number in the letter for people to contact him direct."

“The comment about The sourcer in a suit ( the acused) sinking is unfair and incorrect
His bum is twitching not stinking”

“Another story (see Firday's ET) where our local MP's are blatantly electioneering while masquerading as a news worthy story, good work if you can get it.
Perhaps the £1000 donation Mr Cawsey is going to make to charity from his new pay rise could go towards the cost of cleaning up the local landfill? That would be fitting.”

“Gratifying to see that not all of Scunthorpe's voters, particularly Liebor's core voters, are NAGs. Naive, apathetic and gullible!”
