WATFORD boss Malky Mackay wondered if the game was ever going to finish.

But when it did, he was delighted to be taking away all three points.

"It was very close to being called off," he revealed.

"After it had been stopped twice, the referee said if it happened again, then that was it, he would abandon it.

"I have never quite experienced anything like this before.

"I have played when floodlights have gone out and come back on but never when the game has been stopped twice like it was today.

"I hated it when we were 2-1 up in last few minutes wondering if someone was going to pull the fuse out again!"

Mackay was full of praise for his side, who stretched their unbeaten record to seven games to climb back into the play-off positions.

"I think we finished quite strongly," he said.

"We showed good mentality to come back from 1-0 down when we were under a bit of pressure.

"Scunthorpe has never been an easy place to come and this game was no different.

"We had two stoppages because of the floodlights and had to make three changes to our team during the game due to injuries.

"And we also had to contend with a pitch that was not playing very well.

"I thought both goals were good finishes.

"Danny Graham has been on form for us but we had to bring him off after his goal when he felt a tightening of his hamstrings.

"Matt Whichelow is a young first year professional.

"We brought him off the bench for the first time at Derby and he scored a lovely goal for us. And he did the same for us here today.

"This is a difficult period of the year when you get a lot of games in a short space of time. But it's a time when momentum can build."
