Mr Thorne is a registered member of the Heating Equipment Testing and Approval Scheme (HETAS), which is the leading training provider for solid fuel, wood and biomass.
Mr Thorne said it was important for customers to check engineers have the correct qualifications.
He said: "There are a lot of HETAS engineers out there and people need to check out an engineer's qualifications before they let them carry out work.
"Your house insurance might not be covered if something goes wrong."
Mr Thorne said he has seen more custom since joining the Buy Local campaign. He said: "We have seen interest from the campaign.
"We were chock-a-block throughout November and December and it has been manic."
Mr Thorne said it was important to get chimneys swept at least once a year.
He said: "If you ever have a problem with a chimney, insurers won't pay out unless it has been swept by an approved chimney sweep."
Mr Thorne has operated the business from his Stockshill Road home since April 2011 and previously spent 15 years as a self-employed bricklayer. He is a member of the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps, the national association for chimney sweeps in the UK. And he has also employed a CORGI-registered plumber, so is now able to offer gas, plumbing, oil and central heating services.
