Man 'critical' in Hull Royal Infirmary after collision on Willoughby Road in Scunthorpe

A man was taken to hospital after being found on Willoughby Road in Scunthorpe following a road traffic collision.

The 21-year-old, who remains in a critical condition, is believed by police to have been the sole rider of a motorcycle.

Humberside Police was alerted to the incident by staff from East Midlands Ambulance Service shortly before 5am yesterday morning (Sunday).

The man was taken to Scunthorpe General Hospital, before being transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary.

A Humberside Police spokeswoman said a man aged in his 20s had been arrested in connection with the incident, after a number of inquiries were made.

She said: "He is not believed to have been travelling on the motorcycle with the injured man but may be able to assist police with their inquiries.

"He remains in police custody at this time.

"Police would like to ask people to refrain from posting information in connection with this incident on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

"Any information posted in this way could hinder the on-going police investigation."
