Man injured in 2 Sisters Scunthorpe food plant incident 'critical' in intensive care

A man who sustained spinal injuries following an accident at the 2 Sisters Food Group plant in Scunthorpe remains in intensive care today - his condition being described as critical.

The injured man was taken to hospital following the incident, which took place around 2.30pm yesterday in the Lairage area of the facility on Ram Boulevard.

Humberside Police cordoned off the area and production at the factory was stopped.

Ambulance and the fire service attended the scene.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received the call to attend 2 Sisters Food Group in Scunthorpe at 2.35pm.

"A 40-year-old man suffered spinal injuries.

"Fire-fighters administered oxygen and trauma care and left him in the care of the paramedics."

It is understood the injured man works as a machinist.

Police this morning gave the injured man's age as 38.

A spokeswoman for the Humberside force said today: "Inquiries are ongoing at the scene and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed and will be investigating the incident jointly with Humberside Police."
