A Rescue operation was launched after a man

became trapped on mud flats on the banks of the Humber.

The man became stuck in silt at about 1.20pm yesterday, after

venturing out on to the estuary, close to the Waters' Edge

visitor centre at Barton-Upon-Humber.

Police, the coastguard and ambulance service were all called

to the scene and the helicopter was eventually used to winch

the man to safety.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: "We sent the Humber

Rescue Service and the Hull coastguard to the person, who had

apparently walked out towards the river.

"It was mainly a police job."

The trapped man was transported to hospital, but is understood

he was not seriously injured.

A Humberside Police spokesman it was not known why the man had

ventured out on to the mud flats.

"We were called out following reports of a man stuck in mud on

the side of the River Humber, close to the Humber Bridge," he

said.
