MANCHESTER City goalkeeper Eirik Holmen Johansen has joined Scunthorpe United on loan.

The 20-year-old has been brought to Glanford Park because Sam Slocombe has been diagnosed with a torn thigh muscle.

Johansen, who says he is 6 ft 7 ins tall, has been with Manchester City for four years, as part of the Premier League club's Elite Development Squad.

He has yet to make a senior appearance for Roberto Mancini's side, though does have a squad number.

He was also on the bench at Wembley during City's 3-2 victory over Chelsea in the Community Shield at the start of the current campaign.

Slocombe's injury is likely to sideline him for six weeks - a big blow to the Iron's survival hopes.

He played through the pain barrier during last weekend's 1-0 loss at Brentford, but a scan on the problem at the beginning of the week revealed the full extent of the damage.

Johansen trained with United this morning and said via his official Twitter feed he was 'very happy' to have joined the club.

He wrote: "I've had a brilliant reception from the lads today and will do all I can to help the #irons stay in League 1! Glad to be here!"
